About
Mission
Our mission is to increase knowledge about Linux and open source software and support individuals building a career in open source. Linux Professional Institute is known as the world’s first and largest vendor-neutral Linux certification body. Frequently, we receive questions about learning materials, especially for teaching at schools and universities.
Learning Materials
A working group of our Academic Advisory Committee (AAC), in collaboration with teachers and lecturers, developed a concept for practical teaching material. It quickly became clear that such a project could only be implemented with a clear technical and organizational framework and in cooperation with other interested groups, such as publishers and freelance authors.
In October 2018, Learning was set up to pursue two ambitious initiatives: the creation of dedicated Learning Materials and the establishment of the Linux Professional Institute Publishing Partner (LPP) program.
The development of the Learning Materials relies on a global community: authors, reviewers and translators work together from all over the world. Learning merely takes on the role of the project leader: author acquisition, technical infrastructure from text work to publication and quality assurance are our main tasks.
The results are lessons with a narrow scope and a very specific structure: short introductions describe the concepts of each lesson’s topics and form the basis for subsequent practical parts. We differentiate between guided and explorational exercises, thus ensuring that the materials can be used in very different and heterogeneous learning environments — classroom-ready. And, of course, the results are available for free for non-commercial use.
Publishing Partners (LPP)
Our Learning Materials do not replace manuals or textbooks, though. On the contrary, they should be understood and used by teachers and learners as a complement to each other. That’s why we’re going to integrate commercial and non-commercial providers of Linux and open source documentation.
The Linux Professional Institute Publishing Partner (LPP) program is aimed at publishers, platforms and authors. It supports partners in their work as well as in the promotion of their publications. This makes Learning a platform that provide candidates access to all available exam preparation materials.
Join us!
We are proud to support an agile community around the Learning project. So if you have sound Linux and open source knowledge, can write well, are familiar with Git, AsciiDoc and text editors and would like to help, we look forward to hearing from you: learning@lpi.org
