What is Linux Professional Institute Learning?
Learning bundles activities of the Linux Professional Institute for the development and provision of materials for exam preparation. The focus is on the Learning Materials and the Linux Professional Institute Publishing Partner (LPP) program.

What does Learning do?
Learning initiated the development of the Learning Materials and coordinates the project from the acquisition of authors through to the publication of the materials on learning.lpi.org. This includes the development and maintenance of the infrastructure as well as a sophisticated concept for quality assurance. In addition, Learning maintains a network of commercial and independent publishers and platforms as part of the Linux Professional Institute Publishing Partner (LPP) program to pool resources for exam preparation and make them more accessible to all learners.

What are Learning Materials?
Learning Materials are free teaching materials for teachers and students developed by Linux Professional Institute. They serve as preparation for the exams and are continuously expanded and updated. With the clear structure and strict separation of explanations, exercises and solutions, they consistently follow the classroom-ready approach.

How are the Learning Materials structured?
The Learning Materials deal with the respective objectives of an exam in their current version. Each objective is divided into one or more lessons, depending on its scope and weight. A lesson, on the other hand, is designed for 1-2 class hours and attaches particular importance to exercises and its answers.

Can I pass an exam just after reading the Learning Materials?
The Learning Materials do not replace extensive textbooks or practical work with the Linux or BSD systems and their tools. They provide a practical introduction and should be used complementary to other sources of information.

How are the Learnings Materials developed?
The Learning Materials are created by a worldwide network of Linux and open source experts, including authors, reviewers and translators. Learning organizes the steps from the acquisition of authors through to publication, provides the necessary infrastructure and is responsible for the content through an extensive quality assurance process.

How can I use the Learning Materials?
The Learning Materials are licensed under the Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International license or under a partner contract. For private purposes, in schools, universities and other public educational institutions, the Learning Materials are freely available according to the license mentioned. Commercial use is strictly prohibited. However, Linux Professional Institute offers its partners the possibility of commercial use within the framework of partner agreements, e.g. in the area of training and further education. How are the Learning Materials published?
The publication follows the principle of rolling release: As soon as objectives are completed and have passed through the quality assurance process, they are published. This means that at the beginning of the project for some exams there is little or no materials available. However, Learning is constantly working to close gaps quickly.

In which formats are the Learning Materials available?
The default format is HTML on learning.lpi.org. At the same time, Learning is working on processes to automatically provide additional formats, especially PDF and EPUB.

In which languages are the Learning Materials available?
All Learning Materials will initially be written and published in English. We will try to translate them into other languages as soon as possible. Planned are: Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish and German. Contact us if you would like to help translate materials to another language.

How can I join the project?
If you are interested in working with us, you should meet the following requirements: You have an Linux Professional Institute certification or equivalent qualification. As an author, you are fluent in English at a native-speaker level — for translations from English into your mother tongue, you are linguistically proficient. What is the Linux Professional Institute Publishing Partner (LPP) program?
The Publishing Partner program is designed for individuals, organisations and companies who publish material in preparation for exams. It is a platform for cooperation and bundling of activities for the benefit of open source enthusiasts and learners worldwide.

What are the benefits of a Publishing Partnership?
LPPs have the opportunity to present their company and their publications centrally on learning.lpi.org. This enables them to reach examination candidates worldwide. In addition, partners can add the partner logo to their publications and directly document their high quality standard. More Information can be found at Become a Publishing Partner.

What does an Publishing Partnership cost?
Persons and institutions who make their material available free of charge or non-commercially are free to become partners. Publishers and other commercial providers pay a modest annual fee to help support the program.
